Reagent Description

ULTRAFLO is a multi-component composition containing ultrafine hydrophilic and hydrophobic particles that allows the use of large phase interface area of oil-bearing formation and the use of an exceptional importance nano-object in an available three-phase system, a three-phase contact line (wetting line).

Non-uniform brown liquid; sediment and settling are allowed.

It has the following operational and consumer properties:

  • low particle adsorption rate;
  • deep penetration into the oil reservoir due to the spontaneous orientation of particles and phase changes on rock interfaces;
  • low interfacial tension between oil and water due to change in the ratio of hydrophilic and hydrophobic molecule parts;
  • narrow distribution of ultrafine particles by size that results in increased phase permeability for oil;
  • stability in mineralized water through ion exchange between calcium ions and hydrophobic and hydrophilic particles and modification of the colloidal condition caused by ionic forces and salt effect.

Application Area

ULTRAFLO is compatible with all types of known advanced recovery methods and it can be used:

  • when inactive wells are brought in;
  • during treatment of the bottom-hole zone of production and injection wells, including the use of other bottom-hole treatment methods;
  • to increase well productivity in both low-viscosity and high-viscosity oil;
  • to drill oil and gas wells using it as an additive in drilling mud during primary and secondary drilling (up to 5% of solution weight);
  • during well overhauling and servicing as an additive to well-killing fluid (2-10% of solution weight together with well killing agents);
  • in combination with water-shutoff systems;
  • in complex oil recovery enhancement technologies.

Features

ULTRAFLO reagent is highly stable in water with different salinity and it is compatible with all types of water, its surface active properties are preserved in water with any salinity. The reagent has low interfacial tension in oil-water system (down to 0.005 to 0.95 mN/m) even for high mineralization of formation and injected water, that results in very high oil-washing properties.

In oil reservoir physical models ULTRAFLO reagent showed high oil-washing properties: displacement efficiency increased up to 25.9%. ULTRAFLO reagent has a pour point of minus 45°C, which makes it possible to use it for well treatment in winter.

Which Independent Organizations Confirmed ULTRAFLO Properties?

  1. GORNY National Mineral Resources University (Saint Petersburg), core tests were conducted in Volga-Ural clastic oil reservoirs with formation water salinity 271 g/l. Additional oil displacement coefficient was 12%.
  2. Tests with cores from Devonian clastic rocks fluids were conducted by TatNIPIneft. The increase in final displacement efficiency was 10-15%.
  3. The reagent was tested by NizhnevartovskNIPIneft JSC in low-permeability cores in Samotlor field in Western Siberia and the additional oil displacement coefficient was 8.7%.
  4. LUKOIL-Engineering LLC of PermNIPIneft examined for compliance with specifications and compatibility with formation fluids of Batyrbayskoe deposit (Tl-Bb):
    • ULTRAFLO reagent sample meets TU specifications; in standard conditions the viscosity is 66 mPa•s when measured using SV-10 oscillatory viscometer and 63.9-64.7 mPa•s when measured using a rheoviscosimeter at shear rate 100-511 s-1;
    • ULTRAFLO reagent does not mix with formation-pressure maintenance system water and formation water, it mixes with oil in all investigated ratios;
    • when ULTRAFLO reagent interacts with formation fluids and formation-pressure maintenance system water, no precipitates or highly viscous products that give sieve residue are formed;
    • after storage of ULTRAFLO reagent in contact with formation fluids and formation-pressure maintenance system water for 30 days at reservoir temperature, external changes are absent; ULTRAFLO-oil mixture viscosity after 30 days decreased from 53.1 to 27.2 MPa•s; after filtration of mixtures stored for 30 days through 100 mesh sieve, there was no residue on the sieve.
